We’ve had the pleasure of working closely with the University of Auckland Aeronautics Club (UAC), hosting their members at Highbrook Aero Modellers for hands-on RC flight training.
Our experienced trainers volunteered their time and knowledge to guide students — many of whom had never flown before — through the fundamentals of RC aircraft handling. Using our buddy-box system and club trainer aircraft, the students progressed from taxiing on the runway to confidently taking off, flying circuits, and even attempting some aerobatics.
It’s been incredible watching their skills grow each week, and their enthusiasm has been nothing short of inspiring. As one student put it:
“A little bit of sky, some sticks, and a great mentor — that’s all it took to spark a new passion.”
This collaboration not only introduced students to the joys of RC flight, but also strengthened the connection between model aviation and real-world aeronautical engineering studies. The blend of learning and fun was exactly what we aim for as a club.
